The New Southern Sky programme has successfully delivered the bulk of the National Airspace and Air Navigation Plan (2014) and, in doing so, modernised the New Zealand aviation system. The programme will therefore close formally on 31 December 2023, however, a small number of important projects will continue to be delivered until 2028.

A Benefits evaluation is underway and benefits are expected to accrue up to and, in some cases beyond, 2034.

It is planned to mark the end of the programme with a day-long Stakeholders’ Showcase to be held in Wellington on Thursday 21 March 2024. Hosted by the programme partners Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand, the Ministry of Transport and Airways Corporation, supported by MetService. The Showcase in central Wellington will be a day of reflection, celebration and learning, about the significant safety, economic, environmental and social benefits delivered by the programme.

Programme stakeholders will be invited to present information on the projects they have delivered, the lessons learned and benefits delivered.
